Colonisation of the Moon and the moons of other worlds of the Old Solar System

Humanity’s first steps into the endless deeps of space were made on the Earth’s Moon on 20 July 1969; this date marks the commencement of the Lunar Calendar, still observed throughout the Civilised Galaxy as the After Tranquillity dating system. The Earth’s Moon is rich in aluminium, oxygen, silicon, iron, and titanium; it has little carbon or hydrogen, however, and these elements have been imported to support the large population that lived there by the mid-Interplanetary age, first from Earth, then from the outer Solar System.

An extensive array of black silicon or aluminium mirror solar power collectors powered the new colonies, and the equatorial mass driver; actually a series of launching ramps connected by a freight railroad, set up to launch the exports of iron, titanium, aluminium and oxygen into orbit. Many of the spacecraft that explored and colonised the worlds of the old Sol system were built partly or wholly from lunar materials.

The Outer Solar System moons

The developing science of genetic engineering was feared by most of the governmental bodies of crowded Earth, and many biotech companies relocated to space; at first located in orbiting space habitats, the megacorporation GeneTek invested heavily in the new colonies around Jupiter such as Amalthea. This inner moon was a net producer of energy due to the powerful Jovian Magnetic field; but the inhabitants were subjected to massive radiation levels, and were altered genetically to be able to tolerate this environment.

    Gardeno Habitat

Io

Diameter/Gravity 3630km /0.183 gee
Orbit 1.769 days (tidally locked)
With a heavy iron core and a silicate mantle, this world is the most terrestrial of Jupiter’s satellites. Vast volcanoes, some of which are as energetic as all Earth’s volcanoes combined, constantly churn the silicate crust and cover the surface in sulphurous deposits. The constant mixing of Io’s constituent elements caused by tidal flexing brings heavy minerals and metals to the surface; this world is a major source of uranium, lead, gold and platinum, although these elements are not as common here as in the inner system. Iron is also present in economically important quantities.

Orbital habitats
Frato Granda; in the Io/Jupiter L1 point, this is the domain of the Io Automining corporation, originally a European/Russian joint enterprise, but the Genetek corporation acquired it in 2210; because of the high radiation levels only high radnad Genetekkers can live here for long. The very numerous Io mining vecs and neumanns are rarely allowed to enter Frato Granda, although most of the control systems are located there.
The robomaster of  Frato Granda is Signoro Li, an augmented Fusionist Genetekker; under him the vecs have little freedom.

Gardeno; this is a 10km by 30km rotating cylindrical environment, with rocky walls ten metres thick sufficient to protect the environment from radiation. Inside are parks and gardens and lakes for recreation, some limited market gardening and some experimental genetic ecology. Controlling Gardeno is Damo Maria Fischer; although a genetek tweak herself she has encouraged a wide variety of spacefarers, including Terran expatriates, provolves and Cislunar superiors to make temporary or permanent homes in the cylinder, mostly in quarters buried within the shell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Europa

 is quarantined and has only a small research station because of the search for alien life;  prebiotic lifelike chemistry has been discovered, so hopes are high;  this search will ultimately be unsuccessful. - the development of the aquatic Europan clade will not occur until 495a.t. after the search for life has been finally abandoned.

ganymede

 Ganymede

the largest moon in the Solar System;
the first manned expedition by NARESA craft reached here in 2110, and now has eight major underground cities and several dozen smaller colonies. The oldest city on Ganymede is Memphis; originally a North American/Russian/ European (NARESA)  joint space agency effort, but now predominantly Genetekker;
the Chinese colony of Serapis and the Greater Brazilian colony in Perrine Regio (later the birthplace of Benedita Bluesky Dacosta) do not have such a large tweak population.
Other colonies include the Fusionist Genetek heartland of Ta-urt, and the Mutationist Genetek city of Ninsum.  The Neumann Consortium megacorp has a robot concentration depot at Dendera, and a clade of Homo Superiors have a small township in Barnard Regio.
------------
Orbitals
The Chinese station Zhu Di is a long collection of rotating cylinders with a  large irregular nonrotating component, largely inhabited by Space Adapted people who are loosely allied to the Chinese space program.

The largest Genetek space orbital (there are seven smaller stations at this point in time) is Stelodomo; the chieftain  of this station is Signoro Zyuganov, who is proud of his distant Russian ancestry.

The international space station Columbus is the oldest, and also the newest; in 270 a.t. (2239) the old Columbus station was destroyed by a mentally deranged individual, Alex Thibault. Thibault used mining explosives to breach the outer hull in several places simultaneously, causing the station to spin out of control and making rescue difficult.
The new Columbus station has become the centre for research into the control of  psychological disturbances in space habitats; Commander Luisa Beckmann has been responsible for the introduction of strict mental health monitor techiques. Beckmann's Psychometric Police force is the most powerful tool she has in her quest for mental conformity. The Psychometric police are becoming ever more powerful in the Ganymede system, striking fear into non-conformists of every clade.

Callisto

Diameter 4800km
This world has the largest population of baseline humans in the Jovian system, as it is situated outside the main radiation belt and shielding can be relatively thin.
North American, Russian and European missions in the early days of Jovian colonisation established a large base at Asgard, now Asgard City; many Asgardians are former Americans, European or Russian although the Genetekker population of Asgard is increasing rapidly;
the Republique du Chad and the Indian States are major investors in the city and industrial centre of Valhalla; and the two main cities of Heimdall and Bran are dominated by Chinese and Genetekker interests, and the powerful expression-modelling processors of the Genetek fusionist research movement are based beneath the ice in Heimdall.
Major Vec and Neumann construction facilities are situated near Grimr, and Fresnel agriculture using concentrated sunlight is increasingly important around all the major cities.

Because of the low radiation, Callisto is popular for conception, birthing and childrearing among the less radiation tolerant Genetekker clades.

Orbitals include
Thor;
formerly NARESA, now a vast  communications array and entertainment centre controlled by the Callicom megacorp.
Several rotating rings have been built in stages over the years, and a large boxlike zero gravity facility now surrounds them almost completely.

Kreitajo; This orbital is the main centre for Genetek research into provolution. Following the success of Earth genetecists in developing talking animal species, the Genetek effort in this direction has been largely based here, far from the restrictions of Earth and Cisluna legislators. The Humanimals which have been developed here include Dogmen, Catpeople and orang-humans.

Saturn as seen from the surface of Titan

Titan

in the Saturnian system of moons is perhaps the richest of all the outer worlds past Jupiter; it has extensive reserves of Nitrogen much off which is exported to Mars to bulk out that planet’s atmosphere.

By 2300 Titan had become the Australia of the Solar System; a world which has agreed to accept convicted criminals from Earth or the Earth/Luna system as colonists. These convicted criminals are those serious or persistent non-violent offenders who are given the option of an extended work period on Titan working for certain megacorps; after a period of one half  a Saturn Year (that is to say, after fifteen Earth years) these Optees are generally able to eventually work off their debt to society and become free Titanites or return to crowded Earth and constant surveillance.
As Titan is one of the most resource rich world in the Solar System the companies working here will be wealthy; and only a few companies will use this unusual source of labour - most use vecs and neumanns like other megacorps; but those who do (such as the Chronos Corporation or Tou-sing Nitrogen ) have the advantage of colonists provided free of charge by the Earth Authorities.
The great majority of Option Colonists become valued members of Titan society, which is becoming one of the most wealthy in the System; but some recidivists become members of the local organised crime syndicate, The Ring; this is based in the main population centres of Huygens Orbital in orbit around Titan, or in Dragon City on the surface.
